Our core team
I am a people friendly accountant with extensive experience of national and local businesses and the issues that their managements face in running their businesses and resolving their taxation problems. I joined the practice in 1988 and became the Principal in 1998. My business objectives are to help my clients succeed with their business aspirations and to have enough time and money to enjoy their lives.
I am a qualified accountant and have been in the profession since 1999. I have helped many entrepreneurs to set up in business and implement their accounting systems to ensure the smooth running of their day-to-day business. I am responsible for managing all audits and I prepare management accounts for a large numbers of businesses and discuss the results with their senior management.
I joined Cruse + Burke in December 2012 and I have been in the accountant profession since 2009. My background is ACCA and I have gained a breadth of experience in helping SMEs and individuals to prepare and submit their statutory documents. I also provide support and advice on implementing accounting procedures for the smooth running of the day-to-day business.
I lived in France for 20 years working for a French Pharmaceutical company as the assistant of the Vice-President of Research. Since moving back to the UK, I worked in investment banking before joining Cruse + Burke in 2004. My role and responsibilities cover office administration, payroll/CIS, company secretarial services, internal bookkeeping, intranet administration and marketing.
We also work with a number of highly skilled associates who provide specialist support, including:
Andrew McKenzie-Smart, taxation specialist for owner-managed and family-run businesses
I am a qualified chartered tax adviser and member of the ICAEW. I have broad tax experience and specialise in tax planning for owner managed or family run businesses, particularly where the owners are not UK domiciled, or not UK tax resident. I present at ICAEW, CIOT and ACCA conferences and have assisted Lexis Nexis with Tolley Tax Intelligence and Tolley’s Taxwise.
Simone Hurst, VAT specialist
I am a practising VAT consultant of many years standing. I was the youngest ever direct entrant Executive Officer in HM Customs & Excise working as a VAT control officer, before managing an in house VAT practice for a firm of accountants, then working for one of the Big 4 firms. I now operate a VAT helpline service, supporting businesses, accountant firms and legal practices.
Peter Legg, Inheritance Tax specialist
I spent 18 years in the Capital Taxes Office (now Inheritance Tax Office) of HM Revenue & Customs, leaving in 1984 to join Parmentier-Arthur, a company specialising in the valuation of shares in private companies, succession planning and Inheritance Tax Planning for high net worth individuals. I now provide Inheritance Tax Planning support to other professionals for their high net worth clients.
David Salkeld, business planning specialist
I worked for Lloyds Bank for 31 years – primarily in commercial banking – working with many clients to improve the financial management and profitability of their businesses. I have experience across most business sectors and am skilled in the preparation, management & interpretation of business plans, as well as preparing lending requests to get a “yes”.
