He helped me sort out a very complicated backlog of accounts and prepared my overdue tax returns with professionalism and attention to detail. Throughout the process, he was incredibly patient, took the time to answer all of my questions, and explained everything clearly. We worked with a few different accountants before finally settling with Accotax, and we’re really glad we did. Their team is great. Abdul is responsive and easy to reach whenever I have a question, which makes a big difference. They take the time to understand how our business works and what our needs are. They are very knowledgeable, and when they don’t have the answer straight away, they take the time to look into it and get back to us quickly. Anum, who looks after our account on a day-to-day basis, including reconciling invoices and preparing the annual accounts, is amazing. She is professional, efficient, and follows the processes we have put in place together. She's also very quickin getting back to us whenever needed. We’re very happy to work with her and hope to continue doing so for as long as possible. Overall, Accotax has made our accounting experience much smoother and easier. We see them as a long-term partner as our business continues to grow. I would 100% recommend them.Posted on Google![]()

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend you to anyone looking for an accountant they can genuinely trust.Posted on Google![]()

It covers the same core work as any accountancy service, but structured around how healthcare income and practices operate. In practice that means preparing Self Assessment tax returns that combine employed, self-employed, locum and partnership income correctly, preparing annual accounts and tax computations for practices and incorporated clinics, running payroll for clinical and administrative staff, handling VAT where services are mixed, and advising on business structure, allowable expenses and tax planning. The difference is in the detail: knowing how NHS pay interacts with private fees, how partnership profit shares are allocated, and how Scottish Income Tax applies to earned income for taxpayers based in Ayr.
In most cases, yes. If you have untaxed income outside your main employment, such as private consultation fees, locum shifts paid gross, medico-legal work or rental income, HMRC generally expects that to be reported through Self Assessment, even where your main salary is already taxed through PAYE. The return brings everything together so the correct amount of tax is paid. It also gives you the opportunity to claim allowable expenses connected to that self-employed work, which are often overlooked. We can review your situation and confirm whether a return is required and what needs to be included.
If you are classed as a Scottish taxpayer, Scottish Income Tax bands apply to your earned income, while savings and dividend income continue to follow UK-wide rates. The bands and thresholds differ from the rest of the UK, which can change how much tax is due on the same level of profit and can affect decisions about salary, dividends, pension contributions and the timing of income. Because the rules interact, planning should be based on your actual figures rather than a general rule of thumb. We take this into account when preparing returns and when advising on how you take money out of a practice or company.
Yes. Partnerships and incorporated practices are a significant part of what we do. For a partnership, that typically includes preparing annual accounts, allocating profits between partners, dealing with capital accounts and drawings, and preparing each partner's personal tax return. For a limited company clinic or healthcare business, it includes statutory accounts, Corporation Tax computations, confirmation statements and any VAT returns due. We also handle payroll for the staff who support the practice, from reception and administration through to associates and salaried clinicians.
Broadly, expenses must be incurred wholly and exclusively for the purposes of your work or business, and you need records to support them. Common examples include professional registration and indemnity insurance, professional body subscriptions, medical equipment and its maintenance, specialist clothing such as scrubs where required for work, clinical software and reference materials, mileage for practice-related travel between sites, and a proportionate share of costs where you work from home. Training that maintains existing skills is usually allowable, whereas training that opens up a new area of work often is not. Ownership, personal use and timing all affect what can be claimed, so it is worth checking before assuming something qualifies.
Many medical and paramedical services are exempt from VAT, which is why some practices never register. However, exemption is not universal. Aesthetic and cosmetic treatments, some non-medical services, retail sales in a pharmacy and certain other activities can be taxable. Where a business makes both exempt and taxable supplies, partial exemption rules can apply and the record keeping becomes more important. If your turnover is approaching the registration threshold, or if you are already registered and unsure whether your calculations are right, we can review your position and help put the correct approach in place.
Yes. Most of the work involved in bookkeeping, payroll, VAT, accounts and tax returns can be handled remotely using secure document sharing and cloud accounting software, with calls arranged around clinic lists, surgery hours and on-call commitments. You do not need to visit an office to have a properly managed set of accounts. Many healthcare clients prefer to send records in batches, deal with queries by email or phone, and hold a focused review at year end or ahead of a deadline. The arrangement is built around what is practical for you.
The first step is a conversation about your circumstances. We would look at how you currently work, where your income comes from, whether you are a sole trader, partner or limited company, what accounting records exist and which deadlines are approaching. From there we can set out what support would suit you, what information we would need and how the ongoing arrangement would run. If you are switching accountants, we can also discuss how the handover from your current adviser typically works so that nothing is missed in the transition.
