I highly recommend Imran to anyone looking for a reliable and knowledgeable accountant. He helped me sort out a very complicated backlog of accounts and prepared my overdue tax returns with professionalism and attention to detail. Throughout the process, he was incredibly patient, took the time to answer all of my questions, and explained everything clearly. He guided me through each step and helped rectify issues that had built up over time, making what felt like an overwhelming situation much more manageable. We worked with a few different accountants before finally settling with Accotax, and we’re really glad we did. Their team is great. Abdul is responsive and easy to reach whenever I have a question, which makes a big difference. They take the time to understand how our business works and what our needs are. They are very knowledgeable, and when they don’t have the answer straight away, they take the time to look into it and get back to us quickly. Anum, who looks after our account on a day-to-day basis, including reconciling invoices and preparing the annual accounts, is amazing. She is professional, efficient, and follows the processes we have put in place together. She's also very quickin getting back to us whenever needed. We’re very happy to work with her and hope to continue doing so for as long as possible. Overall, Accotax has made our accounting experience much smoother and easier. We see them as a long-term partner as our business continues to grow. I would 100% recommend them.Posted on Google![]()

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend you to anyone looking for an accountant they can genuinely trust.Posted on Google![]()

It covers the accounting and tax work that healthcare professionals and healthcare businesses need. For individuals, that usually means Self Assessment covering NHS employment income, private patient fees, locum earnings and any other income sources, along with guidance on which expenses can be claimed. For practices and clinics, it includes annual accounts, Corporation Tax returns where incorporated, bookkeeping, payroll for clinical and administrative staff, VAT advice, and management accounts that show how the business is performing. Tax planning and business structure reviews are often part of the picture too, particularly when income grows or working arrangements change.
Yes. The scale of support needed varies considerably. A single physiotherapist, podiatrist, dentist or private GP working alone may need little more than accurate Self Assessment, sensible record keeping and advice on allowable expenses. A partnership running a multi-clinician practice may need full bookkeeping, payroll for a mixed team, VAT guidance and regular management accounts. A limited company providing healthcare services may need Corporation Tax planning, dividend strategy and statutory accounts. The service is shaped around the structure and size of your work rather than a fixed package.
NHS employment income is reported through PAYE, while private patient fees, locum work and consultancy income are typically self-employed or otherwise reportable on a Self Assessment return. When both exist, the return has to bring them together correctly, and the interaction between employment and self-employment can affect how much tax is payable and when. Accurate records of private income and related costs throughout the year make this far more manageable, and it is worth reviewing your position before the filing deadline rather than after.
Commonly claimed costs include professional indemnity and medical defence subscriptions, GMC, NMC, GDC or equivalent registration fees, continuing professional development and training relevant to your existing work, specialist equipment and clinical clothing, professional journals, and a proportionate share of home costs where you use part of your home for administration. Some items need apportioning, and some expenses people assume are allowable are not. Getting this right matters in both directions — claiming too little overstates your tax bill, while claiming incorrectly can lead to queries from HMRC.
Many healthcare services are exempt from VAT, which means they do not count towards the registration threshold and no VAT is charged on them. However, not everything a healthcare business does is exempt. Cosmetic and non-medical treatments, retail sales, dispensing, room hire, consultancy and some other services may be standard-rated. Where a business provides a mix of exempt and taxable supplies, registration can become necessary once taxable turnover passes the threshold, and partial exemption rules may then apply to how much input VAT can be reclaimed. The correct treatment depends on exactly what you supply.
Yes. Practice payroll typically involves salaried clinicians, locum practitioners, nurses, receptionists and administrative staff, sometimes on different pay arrangements. We can manage payslips, RTI submissions to HMRC, statutory payments, holiday pay calculations and pension contributions under auto-enrolment, along with the year-end reporting that follows. Keeping payroll consistent also makes it easier to reconcile staff costs against practice income, which helps when reviewing profitability.
Yes. Much of the accounting process can be handled remotely. Cloud accounting software allows records, receipts and bank transactions to be shared securely, which means you are not reliant on posting paperwork or visiting an office. Documents can be exchanged electronically, questions handled by phone, email or video call, and deadlines tracked without you needing to chase them. For healthcare professionals working across multiple sites or with limited time between clinics, this makes it considerably easier to stay on top of financial admin.
It starts with a conversation about your circumstances. We will ask about your role, how your income is structured, whether you work as a sole trader, partner or limited company, how you currently keep records, and what you find most difficult about your finances. From there we review your accounting and tax position and suggest the support that fits — whether that is Self Assessment, annual accounts, bookkeeping, payroll, VAT or a combination. You will have a clear idea of what is involved, what we need from you and how deadlines will be managed before anything begins.
