He helped me sort out a very complicated backlog of accounts and prepared my overdue tax returns with professionalism and attention to detail. Throughout the process, he was incredibly patient, took the time to answer all of my questions, and explained everything clearly. We worked with a few different accountants before finally settling with Accotax, and we’re really glad we did. Their team is great. Abdul is responsive and easy to reach whenever I have a question, which makes a big difference. They take the time to understand how our business works and what our needs are. They are very knowledgeable, and when they don’t have the answer straight away, they take the time to look into it and get back to us quickly. Anum, who looks after our account on a day-to-day basis, including reconciling invoices and preparing the annual accounts, is amazing. She is professional, efficient, and follows the processes we have put in place together. She's also very quickin getting back to us whenever needed. We’re very happy to work with her and hope to continue doing so for as long as possible. Overall, Accotax has made our accounting experience much smoother and easier. We see them as a long-term partner as our business continues to grow. I would 100% recommend them.Posted on Google![]()

I have really impressed to date with all dealings with Accotax highly enough. From day one, they've made what can often be a complicated and stressful part of running a business feel straightforward and hassle-free. A special mention has to go to Anum, who has been friendly, incredibly responsive, and genuinely cares about providing the best possible service. No question is ever too much trouble, and she consistently goes above and beyond to make sure everything is dealt with efficiently. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend you to anyone looking for an accountant they can genuinely trust.Posted on Google![]()

Self-assessment, allowable expense claims, lab fees and superannuation reconciliation for self-employed associates and private dentists.
Practice accounts, payroll for nurses and receptionists, UDA income monitoring, cash flow and profit extraction planning.
Accounting for referral-based and specialist practices, including capital allowances on equipment and VAT on cosmetic treatment.
Cash flow forecasts for lenders, company formation, cloud software set-up and registration for new and squat dental practices.
We reconcile NHS schedules, private takings, plan income such as Denplan and card receipts so you always know what the practice is really earning.
Most dental treatment is VAT exempt, but cosmetic work, teeth whitening and product sales are not. We handle partial exemption and get your returns right.
We prepare associate tax returns, claim every allowable expense from GDC fees and indemnity to CPD and lab costs, and reconcile superannuation deductions.
Payroll for nurses, hygienists and reception staff, plus auto-enrolment, statutory pay and NHS Pension submissions handled on time every month.
Management accounts that show profit per surgery, per associate and per income stream, so you can see exactly where the practice makes money.
Dental accounting involves more moving parts than many people expect, and the right approach depends heavily on how you are engaged, what you earn and how your business is structured. A few recurring areas tend to need attention.
We know UDAs, superannuation, associate agreements and GDC costs without being told.
Associates, principals and multi-site groups each get a different service, not a template.
One agreed monthly fee with no hourly billing and no surprises at year end.
Incorporation reviews, capital allowances on equipment and profit extraction planned in advance.
You deal with the same qualified person every time, by phone or email, not a call centre.

Our team has over 100 years of combined accountancy experience.
Never Miss any deadline with our automated email reminders.
We’re an ICAEW, ACCA & AAT accredited Firm.
Take a back seat and let our London dental accountants handle everything. Switching mid-year is straightforward and you do not need to speak to your old accountant:
Reach out to us and we will discuss your practice, your contract and how we can help.
We’ll send over a simple letter to formalise our partnership and get everything in motion.
If you're switching, we’ll take care of contacting your previous accountants to make the transition smooth.
From there, sit back and relax. We’ll manage your accounts, taxes, and everything in between, keeping your practice running smoothly.
It is not a legal requirement, but it can be very useful. Associate dentists often receive income from one or more practices, may have indemnity and professional subscription costs, and need to report profits and expenses correctly through Self Assessment. An accountant can help you keep accurate records, work out what may be allowable, calculate your tax liability and manage payments on account, which is often where associates run into difficulty.
The tax treatment depends on how the income is received and the structure you operate under, rather than on the label itself. NHS and private income both form part of your taxable profits if you are self-employed or running a practice, and both need to be recorded accurately. Where income is received through a limited company or partnership, the reporting route changes. Because the treatment can vary, it is worth discussing your specific arrangements rather than assuming a single rule applies.
These are common professional costs for dentists, and in many cases they may be allowable as business expenses when they are incurred wholly and exclusively for your profession. Whether a specific cost qualifies can depend on your employment status and business structure, and on whether the expense is genuinely related to your work. We review these costs alongside your other expenditure and treat them appropriately in your accounts and tax return.
VAT depends on your taxable turnover and the nature of the treatments you provide, since some dental services may be exempt while others are not. Many practices providing purely NHS treatment may fall outside VAT registration, but mixed private, cosmetic and laboratory work can change the picture. Registration thresholds and treatment rules can change, so it is best to review your position based on your actual turnover and services rather than applying a general assumption.
There is no single answer that suits every dentist. Sole trader and partnership structures are common among associates and practice partners, while limited companies are often used by practice owners for reasons that may include tax planning, profit retention and limited liability. The right choice depends on your income levels, how profits are shared, your plans for growth or sale, and your personal circumstances. We can talk through the options and the implications of each.
At minimum, you need a clear record of your income from all sources and your business-related costs, supported by invoices, receipts and bank statements. Good records make your tax return more accurate, reduce the risk of queries, and give you a useful picture of how the practice or your self-employed work is performing. We can help you set up a straightforward system and, where helpful, take on the bookkeeping for you.
Yes. Practice payroll often covers a mix of roles, including receptionists, dental nurses, hygienists, therapists, technicians and associates in some arrangements, and each may be treated differently for tax and National Insurance purposes. We can manage payroll processing, payslips and the associated reporting so that staff are paid correctly and your obligations are met.
Usually we need your most recent accounts and tax returns, details of your current business structure, records of income and expenditure, payroll information if you employ staff, and VAT records if you are registered. We can also contact your existing accountant to request the relevant handover information, subject to your authorisation. Once we have the full picture, we can confirm what work is needed and how the transition will run.
