We worked with a few different accountants before finally settling with Accotax, and we’re really glad we did. Their team is great. Abdul is responsive and easy to reach whenever I have a question, which makes a big difference. They take the time to understand how our business works and what our needs are. They are very knowledgeable, and when they don’t have the answer straight away, they take the time to look into it and get back to us quickly. Anum, who looks after our account on a day-to-day basis, including reconciling invoices and preparing the annual accounts, is amazing. She is professional, efficient, and follows the processes we have put in place together. She's also very quickin getting back to us whenever needed. We’re very happy to work with her and hope to continue doing so for as long as possible. Overall, Accotax has made our accounting experience much smoother and easier. We see them as a long-term partner as our business continues to grow. I would 100% recommend them.Posted on Google![]()

I have really impressed to date with all dealings with Accotax highly enough. From day one, they've made what can often be a complicated and stressful part of running a business feel straightforward and hassle-free. A special mention has to go to Anum, who has been friendly, incredibly responsive, and genuinely cares about providing the best possible service. No question is ever too much trouble, and she consistently goes above and beyond to make sure everything is dealt with efficiently. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend you to anyone looking for an accountant they can genuinely trust.Posted on Google![]()

Self-assessment, allowable expense claims, lab fees and superannuation reconciliation for self-employed associates and private dentists.
Practice accounts, payroll for nurses and receptionists, UDA income monitoring, cash flow and profit extraction planning.
Accounting for referral-based and specialist practices, including capital allowances on equipment and VAT on cosmetic treatment.
Cash flow forecasts for lenders, company formation, cloud software set-up and registration for new and squat dental practices.
We reconcile NHS schedules, private takings, plan income such as Denplan and card receipts so you always know what the practice is really earning.
Most dental treatment is VAT exempt, but cosmetic work, teeth whitening and product sales are not. We handle partial exemption and get your returns right.
We prepare associate tax returns, claim every allowable expense from GDC fees and indemnity to CPD and lab costs, and reconcile superannuation deductions.
Payroll for nurses, hygienists and reception staff, plus auto-enrolment, statutory pay and NHS Pension submissions handled on time every month.
Management accounts that show profit per surgery, per associate and per income stream, so you can see exactly where the practice makes money.
Dental accounting involves a few features that do not appear in most other trades, and how much they matter depends on the way you work, who pays you and what you own. The points below are common considerations rather than universal rules, and their treatment can vary from one dentist to the next.
We know UDAs, superannuation, associate agreements and GDC costs without being told.
Associates, principals and multi-site groups each get a different service, not a template.
One agreed monthly fee with no hourly billing and no surprises at year end.
Incorporation reviews, capital allowances on equipment and profit extraction planned in advance.
You deal with the same qualified person every time, by phone or email, not a call centre.

Take a back seat and let our London dental accountants handle everything. Switching mid-year is straightforward and you do not need to speak to your old accountant:
Reach out to us and we will discuss your practice, your contract and how we can help.
We’ll send over a simple letter to formalise our partnership and get everything in motion.
If you're switching, we’ll take care of contacting your previous accountants to make the transition smooth.
From there, sit back and relax. We’ll manage your accounts, taxes, and everything in between, keeping your practice running smoothly.
Not everyone does, but many associate dentists find it useful. If you receive fees from one or more practices, pay your own indemnity cover, fund your own CPD and submit a Self Assessment tax return, there can be several moving parts to keep straight. An accountant can help ensure income is reported correctly, allowable professional expenses are claimed where appropriate, and payments on account are understood in advance rather than discovered later. Associates working through their own limited company often have additional filing and payroll obligations to manage.
The two roles generate very different records. An associate typically needs help with personal tax, expense tracking and sometimes a limited company or partnership return, with income based on an agreed percentage of fees. A practice owner, by contrast, is likely to deal with staff payroll, practice premises costs, equipment and finance, VAT where applicable, and either partnership or company accounts. Some dentists do both at once, which can add further layers to the tax position.
Yes. Many dentists in Basildon receive income from more than one source, and the records need to distinguish between them clearly enough to support the figures reported. NHS contract payments, private patient fees, laboratory recharges and associate shares can arrive on different schedules and through different systems. Keeping those streams separated makes bookkeeping more accurate and reduces the risk of queries later on.
It depends on your circumstances and how the expense relates to your work, but costs commonly reviewed include indemnity insurance, GDC registration and professional body subscriptions, CPD, clinical clothing, specialist equipment, laboratory charges and a proportion of home costs where a genuine business use applies. Relief is generally available where an expense is incurred wholly and exclusively for the purposes of the profession, and some items may instead qualify as capital expenditure with different treatment. Each case is assessed on its own facts.
Whether VAT registration is required depends on your taxable turnover and the nature of the services you provide, and treatment can differ between NHS and private work. That means the answer is not the same for every practice, and the position can change as private income grows or as services are added. It is worth reviewing periodically rather than assuming your status stays fixed, particularly around practice purchases or changes in the mix of work.
A practice that employs nurses, hygienists, therapists, receptionists or a practice manager will usually need to run PAYE, issue payslips, report to HMRC on or before each pay date and handle pension auto-enrolment duties. Directors of limited companies also need payroll arrangements, even where salary levels are modest. Payroll support can be handled alongside the rest of your accounting so that wage costs feed straight into the practice accounts.
Accounting input is often valuable at both ends of a transaction. Before purchase, it can help to review the figures, understand how profits are generated and consider the most suitable structure going forward. On a sale or retirement, there may be tax reliefs or timing points worth planning for well in advance, along with goodwill valuation and completion accounts to work through. Early involvement generally leaves more room to plan.
Switching is usually more straightforward than dentists expect. Once you decide to move, your new accountant contacts the previous firm for professional clearance and requests the records needed to take over, including any accounts, tax returns and HMRC correspondence. From there, existing bookkeeping software or spreadsheets can normally continue, or a different setup can be introduced if it suits you better. The aim is to keep disruption to a minimum and avoid gaps in filings.
