He helped me sort out a very complicated backlog of accounts and prepared my overdue tax returns with professionalism and attention to detail. Throughout the process, he was incredibly patient, took the time to answer all of my questions, and explained everything clearly. We worked with a few different accountants before finally settling with Accotax, and we’re really glad we did. Their team is great. Abdul is responsive and easy to reach whenever I have a question, which makes a big difference. They take the time to understand how our business works and what our needs are. They are very knowledgeable, and when they don’t have the answer straight away, they take the time to look into it and get back to us quickly. Anum, who looks after our account on a day-to-day basis, including reconciling invoices and preparing the annual accounts, is amazing. She is professional, efficient, and follows the processes we have put in place together. She's also very quickin getting back to us whenever needed. We’re very happy to work with her and hope to continue doing so for as long as possible. Overall, Accotax has made our accounting experience much smoother and easier. We see them as a long-term partner as our business continues to grow. I would 100% recommend them.Posted on Google![]()

I have really impressed to date with all dealings with Accotax highly enough. From day one, they've made what can often be a complicated and stressful part of running a business feel straightforward and hassle-free. A special mention has to go to Anum, who has been friendly, incredibly responsive, and genuinely cares about providing the best possible service. No question is ever too much trouble, and she consistently goes above and beyond to make sure everything is dealt with efficiently. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend you to anyone looking for an accountant they can genuinely trust.Posted on Google![]()

Self-assessment, allowable expense claims, lab fees and superannuation reconciliation for self-employed associates and private dentists.
Practice accounts, payroll for nurses and receptionists, UDA income monitoring, cash flow and profit extraction planning.
Accounting for referral-based and specialist practices, including capital allowances on equipment and VAT on cosmetic treatment.
Cash flow forecasts for lenders, company formation, cloud software set-up and registration for new and squat dental practices.
We reconcile NHS schedules, private takings, plan income such as Denplan and card receipts so you always know what the practice is really earning.
Most dental treatment is VAT exempt, but cosmetic work, teeth whitening and product sales are not. We handle partial exemption and get your returns right.
We prepare associate tax returns, claim every allowable expense from GDC fees and indemnity to CPD and lab costs, and reconcile superannuation deductions.
Payroll for nurses, hygienists and reception staff, plus auto-enrolment, statutory pay and NHS Pension submissions handled on time every month.
Management accounts that show profit per surgery, per associate and per income stream, so you can see exactly where the practice makes money.
Dental accounting rarely fits a single template. A dentist's income, allowable expenses and reporting obligations can shift depending on whether they hold an NHS contract, treat patients privately, work as an associate across multiple practices, or run a practice through a partnership or limited company. Areas that commonly need attention include:
We know UDAs, superannuation, associate agreements and GDC costs without being told.
Associates, principals and multi-site groups each get a different service, not a template.
One agreed monthly fee with no hourly billing and no surprises at year end.
Incorporation reviews, capital allowances on equipment and profit extraction planned in advance.
You deal with the same qualified person every time, by phone or email, not a call centre.

Our team has over 100 years of combined accountancy experience.
Never Miss any deadline with our automated email reminders.
We’re an ICAEW, ACCA & AAT accredited Firm.
Take a back seat and let our London dental accountants handle everything. Switching mid-year is straightforward and you do not need to speak to your old accountant:
Reach out to us and we will discuss your practice, your contract and how we can help.
We’ll send over a simple letter to formalise our partnership and get everything in motion.
If you're switching, we’ll take care of contacting your previous accountants to make the transition smooth.
From there, sit back and relax. We’ll manage your accounts, taxes, and everything in between, keeping your practice running smoothly.
Not every associate dentist chooses to use one, but many find it helpful. As a self-employed associate you are likely to need to register for Self Assessment and file a tax return each year, reporting income from each practice you work with alongside any other earnings. An accountant can help you record that income accurately across multiple practices, identify allowable expenses such as indemnity insurance, GDC fees and professional subscriptions, and work out what is actually payable. If you also have employment income, or work partly through a limited company, the reporting can become more involved again, which is where specialist support tends to add the most value.
In broad terms, both NHS and private income earned through self-employment are reported on your tax return, but how they are recorded and which deductions apply can differ. NHS income may arrive under a contract with its own payment schedules and arrangements, while private income is usually invoiced directly to patients or collected through the practice. How it all fits together depends on whether you operate as a sole trader, a partner or through a limited company, so it is worth taking advice on your specific situation rather than applying a general rule.
Costs that are commonly claimed include indemnity or professional insurance, GDC registration and professional body subscriptions, specialist clothing, continuing professional development, and an appropriate proportion of travel between practices. Equipment, treatment room fit-outs and similar capital items are generally treated differently from day-to-day running costs and may attract relief over a period of time rather than all at once. Because the treatment depends on what the cost is for and how it relates to your work, we review each item individually instead of assuming a blanket approach.
There is no single answer that suits every dentist. Sole trader and partnership arrangements are common among associate dentists and smaller practices, while operating through a limited company can appeal to practice owners for reasons that may include how profits are taken and how the business is structured for the future. The right choice depends on your income level, how many practices or partners are involved, your growth plans and your personal circumstances. We can talk through the practical and tax implications of each option so you can make a considered decision rather than an instinctive one.
Yes. Where a practice employs hygienists, dental nurses, receptionists or other staff, payroll can be run on your behalf, including payslips, Real Time Information submissions and workplace pension administration where applicable. On the VAT side, many dental treatments may fall outside the scope of VAT, but certain cosmetic treatments, retail products and mixed supplies can be standard-rated depending on the circumstances. It is really a question of looking at what your practice actually provides, and we can advise on registration and prepare returns where VAT applies.
Switching is usually more straightforward than people expect. Once you decide to move, we would normally ask for your authorisation to contact your existing accountant and request handover information such as your accounts, tax returns and bookkeeping records, along with the professional clearance needed to take over your affairs. From there, we review what has been done previously, identify anything outstanding and agree how the work will run going forward. Any deadlines already approaching are factored into the handover so nothing is overlooked in the transition.
It helps to have your recent tax returns, accounts and bookkeeping records to hand, along with details of your income from NHS contracts, private work and any employment, plus information on expenses such as indemnity cover, professional fees and equipment purchases. If you run a practice, payroll records, bank statements and VAT records are also useful. If you are unsure what is relevant, we can guide you through what to gather, and missing documents are a normal part of a first conversation rather than a barrier to getting started.
Fees reflect the scope and complexity of the work involved, so they depend on factors such as whether you need a personal tax return, practice accounts, payroll, VAT returns or a combination of services. As Accountants for Dentists in Bridgwater, we discuss the likely scope at the outset and explain how charges are structured before any work begins, so you understand what is included and what to expect. If your circumstances change during the year, we will talk that through with you rather than leaving you with an unexpected bill.
