We worked with a few different accountants before finally settling with Accotax, and we’re really glad we did. Their team is great. Abdul is responsive and easy to reach whenever I have a question, which makes a big difference. They take the time to understand how our business works and what our needs are. They are very knowledgeable, and when they don’t have the answer straight away, they take the time to look into it and get back to us quickly. Anum, who looks after our account on a day-to-day basis, including reconciling invoices and preparing the annual accounts, is amazing. She is professional, efficient, and follows the processes we have put in place together. She's also very quickin getting back to us whenever needed. We’re very happy to work with her and hope to continue doing so for as long as possible. Overall, Accotax has made our accounting experience much smoother and easier. We see them as a long-term partner as our business continues to grow. I would 100% recommend them.Posted on Google![]()

I have really impressed to date with all dealings with Accotax highly enough. From day one, they've made what can often be a complicated and stressful part of running a business feel straightforward and hassle-free. A special mention has to go to Anum, who has been friendly, incredibly responsive, and genuinely cares about providing the best possible service. No question is ever too much trouble, and she consistently goes above and beyond to make sure everything is dealt with efficiently. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend you to anyone looking for an accountant they can genuinely trust.Posted on Google![]()

Self-assessment, allowable expense claims, lab fees and superannuation reconciliation for self-employed associates and private dentists.
Practice accounts, payroll for nurses and receptionists, UDA income monitoring, cash flow and profit extraction planning.
Accounting for referral-based and specialist practices, including capital allowances on equipment and VAT on cosmetic treatment.
Cash flow forecasts for lenders, company formation, cloud software set-up and registration for new and squat dental practices.
We reconcile NHS schedules, private takings, plan income such as Denplan and card receipts so you always know what the practice is really earning.
Most dental treatment is VAT exempt, but cosmetic work, teeth whitening and product sales are not. We handle partial exemption and get your returns right.
We prepare associate tax returns, claim every allowable expense from GDC fees and indemnity to CPD and lab costs, and reconcile superannuation deductions.
Payroll for nurses, hygienists and reception staff, plus auto-enrolment, statutory pay and NHS Pension submissions handled on time every month.
Management accounts that show profit per surgery, per associate and per income stream, so you can see exactly where the practice makes money.
Dental accounting often involves more moving parts than the average small business, because income can come from a range of sources and the tax treatment can vary depending on whether you are employed, self-employed, in partnership or running a limited company. The points below are common considerations rather than rules that apply to everyone.
We know UDAs, superannuation, associate agreements and GDC costs without being told.
Associates, principals and multi-site groups each get a different service, not a template.
One agreed monthly fee with no hourly billing and no surprises at year end.
Incorporation reviews, capital allowances on equipment and profit extraction planned in advance.
You deal with the same qualified person every time, by phone or email, not a call centre.
Our roots go back further than the Second World War and we act for dental clients across London.
We begin by getting to know your practice and understanding your unique needs. This step ensures we have a clear picture of your operations and your goals.
Based on our initial discussion, we create a personalised plan designed specifically for you. The aim is to keep everything organised and easy to follow. You can rest assured that your numbers are being handled with expert precision.
From there, we take care of the ongoing work and keep you updated with reports. You’ll always know what’s happening, and we’re always here to answer your questions, ensuring you have a clear picture of your financial health at all times.
Cloud accounting linked to your practice software so your figures are current, not six months old.
A dedicated accountant for dentists who knows your practice, your contract and your plans.
Unlimited support by phone and email, including quick answers on UDA and superannuation queries.
Our team has over 100 years of combined accountancy experience.
Never Miss any deadline with our automated email reminders.
We’re an ICAEW, ACCA & AAT accredited Firm.
Take a back seat and let our London dental accountants handle everything. Switching mid-year is straightforward and you do not need to speak to your old accountant:
Reach out to us and we will discuss your practice, your contract and how we can help.
We’ll send over a simple letter to formalise our partnership and get everything in motion.
If you're switching, we’ll take care of contacting your previous accountants to make the transition smooth.
From there, sit back and relax. We’ll manage your accounts, taxes, and everything in between, keeping your practice running smoothly.
The work varies with your situation. For a self-employed or associate dentist, it commonly covers bookkeeping, preparing and filing your Self Assessment tax return, and making sure professional expenses such as indemnity cover and subscriptions are properly claimed where allowable. For a practice owner, it can extend to annual accounts, Corporation Tax or partnership returns, payroll for staff, VAT returns where you are registered, and tax planning around profit extraction, equipment purchases or changes to the practice. Most dental clients use a combination of these services rather than all of them.
Many associate dentists do file their own returns, and some manage perfectly well. The difficulty usually appears when you have more than one income source, when a practice pays you in a way that needs unpicking, or when you are unsure which costs are allowable against your self-employed income. An accountant can check that your income has been reported in the right place, that your expenses are treated consistently, and that anything you have already paid on account is correctly reflected.
In practice, the two are often recorded separately in your books because they can arrive through different routes and at different times — NHS payments may come through a contract or practitioner arrangement, while private fees are typically collected directly or through a practice. How each is reported depends on whether you receive the income personally, through a practice, or through a company. We review how your income actually reaches you and record it in a way that reflects the underlying arrangements rather than forcing it into a single category.
There is no structure that suits every dental business. A limited company can bring different tax and National Insurance outcomes and often provides more flexibility around how profits are taken, but it also introduces additional filing, compliance and record-keeping obligations. Partnerships suit some practice owners and bring their own rules on profit sharing and reporting. It is worth reviewing the position if your income has grown, you are taking on a partner, or your circumstances have changed, since the most suitable structure can shift over time.
Yes. Payroll support for dental practices commonly covers nurses, receptionists, hygienists, therapists and other employed team members, including the calculations and reporting that accompany each pay run. Where the practice operates a pension scheme, the associated obligations are part of the same process. If you also pay yourself a salary or dividends from a limited company, that can be coordinated with the wider tax position rather than handled in isolation.
A practical starting point is to keep everything that shows money coming in and money going out: invoices and payment advices from practices, bank and card statements, receipts for materials and equipment, indemnity insurance documents, professional subscription records and details of any practice-related travel. Keeping these organised as the year progresses makes the accounts and tax return far quicker to prepare and reduces the risk of an allowable cost being missed. Records should be retained for as long as HMRC requires.
Earlier than most people expect. Once a sale or purchase is well advanced, there is often limited room to change the structure of the deal, so involving an accountant during the planning stage gives more opportunity to consider how the transaction is put together, what the accounts show a buyer, and how the proceeds or costs may be treated for tax. If you are buying, the same applies — understanding the financial history of a practice before you commit is far more useful than reviewing it afterwards.
The process is usually less disruptive than dentists anticipate. We would ask for details of your current adviser, obtain the information needed to take over the engagement, and arrange the handover of records and prior filings. You do not need to prepare anything yourself beforehand, and where a return or accounts deadline is approaching, we will look at the timing so the transition does not create unnecessary pressure.
