We worked with a few different accountants before finally settling with Accotax, and we’re really glad we did. Their team is great. Abdul is responsive and easy to reach whenever I have a question, which makes a big difference. They take the time to understand how our business works and what our needs are. They are very knowledgeable, and when they don’t have the answer straight away, they take the time to look into it and get back to us quickly. Anum, who looks after our account on a day-to-day basis, including reconciling invoices and preparing the annual accounts, is amazing. She is professional, efficient, and follows the processes we have put in place together. She's also very quickin getting back to us whenever needed. We’re very happy to work with her and hope to continue doing so for as long as possible. Overall, Accotax has made our accounting experience much smoother and easier. We see them as a long-term partner as our business continues to grow. I would 100% recommend them.Posted on Google![]()

From day one, they've made what can often be a complicated and stressful part of running a business feel straightforward and hassle-free. A special mention has to go to Anum, who has been friendly, incredibly responsive, and genuinely cares about providing the best possible service. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend you to anyone looking for an accountant they can genuinely trust.Posted on Google![]()

Pharmacy businesses are rarely straightforward when it comes to the numbers. Income often arrives from several different sources, costs are spread across stock, staff and premises, and the correct accounting or tax treatment can depend on your individual circumstances. Below are the issues we see most often.
Drug tariff, category M, EPS reconciliation and stock valuation — no explaining required.
One qualified point of contact who knows your branch, your numbers and your plans.
Xero, QuickBooks or Sage linked to your bank and till so figures are current, not six months old.
Management accounts showing dispensing margin, retail margin and profit per branch.
One agreed monthly fee with no hourly billing and no unexpected invoices.
We work with pharmacies, GP practices, dentists and clinics, so the sector is all we do.

Take a back seat and let our pharmacy accountants handle everything. Switching mid-year is simple and you never need to contact your old accountant:
Reach out to us, and we’ll discuss your needs and how we can help your healthcare practice thrive.
We’ll send over a simple letter to formalise our partnership and get everything in motion.
If you're switching, we’ll take care of contacting your previous accountants to make the transition smooth.
From there, sit back and relax. We’ll manage your accounts, taxes, and everything in between, keeping your practice running smoothly.
Our service is built around the compliance and reporting work that pharmacy businesses and individual pharmacists need. That typically includes bookkeeping and financial record keeping, preparation of annual accounts for limited companies, Self Assessment tax returns for sole traders, partners and locum pharmacists, Corporation Tax computations and returns, payroll for your dispensary team, and VAT support where it applies to your business. Alongside that, we provide management accounts, tax planning and general business accounting advice, so you are not just getting a return filed but a clear view of how your pharmacy is doing. Services are arranged as fixed and transparent packages, so you know what is covered from the outset, and we always explain what a piece of work involves before we carry it out.
They are designed for pharmacists and pharmacy businesses rather than the general public. That includes community pharmacists, locum pharmacists, self-employed pharmacists, pharmacy owners, independent pharmacies, pharmacy partnerships and limited company pharmacy businesses. It also covers pharmacists who combine employed work with locum shifts, or who provide additional clinical services alongside dispensing. If your income comes from a mix of sources, or you employ staff and carry stock, you are exactly the kind of client we work with. If you are unsure whether your circumstances fit, an initial conversation will usually make it clear, and we will tell you honestly whether we are the right fit for what you need.
NHS and private income are recorded and reconciled separately so that each is properly accounted for and reported in the right way. NHS payments often arrive on their own schedule and may include items such as dispensing fees and service payments, while private prescriptions, over-the-counter sales and clinical services come in through different routes. Keeping these streams distinct makes it easier to check that everything has been received, to spot discrepancies early, and to produce accurate accounts and tax returns. The exact accounting treatment can vary depending on how your business is structured and what activities you carry out, so we review your individual position rather than applying a blanket approach, and we will explain any areas where judgement or professional guidance is needed.
Yes. Self Assessment is one of the most common pieces of work we handle for pharmacists. We gather your income details, whether that is locum invoices, self-employed earnings or other sources, review the expenses you have incurred, and prepare and file your return by the deadline. We also help you work out what payments on account may be due, so there are no surprises later in the year. Because tax treatment depends on your individual circumstances, including how you work and what you have spent, we take time to go through the details rather than assuming a standard position. If you have fallen behind with previous returns, we can help you get back on track and deal with any correspondence from HMRC.
Common examples include professional registration and regulatory fees, professional indemnity insurance, relevant training and continuing professional development, specialist equipment and uniforms, and travel between work locations where it is genuinely business related. Costs relating to running a pharmacy, such as staff wages, stock, premises costs and software, are treated as business expenses in the usual way. What can and cannot be claimed depends on your individual circumstances and on whether an expense is wholly and exclusively for business purposes, so the correct treatment is not always obvious. We review your records with you and make the position clear, so you claim what you are entitled to without taking risks that could cause problems later.
We can take on as much or as little of the day-to-day record keeping as you want. Many pharmacy clients ask us to handle bookkeeping entirely, including reconciling income from NHS and private sources, recording supplier invoices and stock purchases, and preparing the figures for VAT where applicable. Payroll is handled for dispensary staff, counter assistants, pharmacy technicians and any other employees, covering payslips, Real Time Information submissions and the associated administration. If you prefer to keep some of the record keeping in-house using software, we can work with that and simply review and finalise the numbers. Whichever route you choose, the aim is accurate records throughout the year so that year-end accounts are straightforward.
VAT treatment depends entirely on your individual circumstances, including your turnover, the mix of goods and services you provide, and whether any of your supplies are exempt. Many pharmacy activities involve a combination of standard-rated, zero-rated and exempt items, which can make registration and reporting less than straightforward. We review your position and explain whether registration is required or advisable, how to account for VAT on your sales and purchases, and what records you need to keep. Where the rules interact with your wider tax position, we will set out the options clearly. Because VAT is an area where small errors can become expensive, we recommend checking before you act rather than afterwards.
Switching is usually simpler than people expect. Once you get in touch, we arrange an initial conversation to understand your pharmacy business, your current accounting arrangements and what you would like to improve. If you decide to proceed, we contact your existing accountant to request the relevant handover information, including accounts, tax returns and records, so you do not have to manage that correspondence yourself. We then bring your bookkeeping and compliance up to date, agree how the ongoing service will work, and confirm what information you will need to send us and when. Throughout the process we keep things clear and unhurried, and you are welcome to ask questions at any stage before making a decision.
