We worked with a few different accountants before finally settling with Accotax, and we’re really glad we did. Their team is great. Abdul is responsive and easy to reach whenever I have a question, which makes a big difference. They take the time to understand how our business works and what our needs are. They are very knowledgeable, and when they don’t have the answer straight away, they take the time to look into it and get back to us quickly. Anum, who looks after our account on a day-to-day basis, including reconciling invoices and preparing the annual accounts, is amazing. She is professional, efficient, and follows the processes we have put in place together. She's also very quickin getting back to us whenever needed. We’re very happy to work with her and hope to continue doing so for as long as possible. Overall, Accotax has made our accounting experience much smoother and easier. We see them as a long-term partner as our business continues to grow. I would 100% recommend them.Posted on Google![]()

From day one, they've made what can often be a complicated and stressful part of running a business feel straightforward and hassle-free. A special mention has to go to Anum, who has been friendly, incredibly responsive, and genuinely cares about providing the best possible service. No question is ever too much trouble, and she consistently goes above and beyond to make sure everything is dealt with efficiently. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend you to anyone looking for an accountant they can genuinely trust.Posted on Google![]()

Self-assessment, allowable expense claims, lab fees and superannuation reconciliation for self-employed associates and private dentists.
Practice accounts, payroll for nurses and receptionists, UDA income monitoring, cash flow and profit extraction planning.
Accounting for referral-based and specialist practices, including capital allowances on equipment and VAT on cosmetic treatment.
Cash flow forecasts for lenders, company formation, cloud software set-up and registration for new and squat dental practices.
We reconcile NHS schedules, private takings, plan income such as Denplan and card receipts so you always know what the practice is really earning.
Most dental treatment is VAT exempt, but cosmetic work, teeth whitening and product sales are not. We handle partial exemption and get your returns right.
We prepare associate tax returns, claim every allowable expense from GDC fees and indemnity to CPD and lab costs, and reconcile superannuation deductions.
Payroll for nurses, hygienists and reception staff, plus auto-enrolment, statutory pay and NHS Pension submissions handled on time every month.
Management accounts that show profit per surgery, per associate and per income stream, so you can see exactly where the practice makes money.
Dental accounting often involves more moving parts than a single salary, and the challenges tend to follow the way you work rather than the profession as a whole. The points below are common considerations rather than a checklist that applies to every dentist or practice.
We know UDAs, superannuation, associate agreements and GDC costs without being told.
Associates, principals and multi-site groups each get a different service, not a template.
One agreed monthly fee with no hourly billing and no surprises at year end.
Incorporation reviews, capital allowances on equipment and profit extraction planned in advance.
You deal with the same qualified person every time, by phone or email, not a call centre.

Take a back seat and let our London dental accountants handle everything. Switching mid-year is straightforward and you do not need to speak to your old accountant:
Reach out to us and we will discuss your practice, your contract and how we can help.
We’ll send over a simple letter to formalise our partnership and get everything in motion.
If you're switching, we’ll take care of contacting your previous accountants to make the transition smooth.
From there, sit back and relax. We’ll manage your accounts, taxes, and everything in between, keeping your practice running smoothly.
The underlying principles of accounting and tax apply to everyone, but dental work produces particular patterns that are worth recognising. A dentist's income may come from an NHS contract, private treatment fees, laboratory work or a combination of all three, and an associate may be paid by several practices at once. An accountant who regularly works with dentists will recognise how these arrangements are usually structured, which expenses tend to arise and where clarification is commonly needed, which can make the reporting process smoother and the advice more relevant to your situation.
Self-employed associate dentists are generally taxed through Self Assessment, which means income from each practice is combined and allowable expenses are deducted before tax is calculated. Where payments are made without tax being deducted at source, it can be sensible to set money aside for the eventual bill and, depending on your circumstances, payments on account may be required. If you also hold an employed position, that income is usually taxed through PAYE and reported separately. The exact position depends on your contracts and how each practice pays you, so it is worth checking how every arrangement is treated.
Yes. Where you receive both NHS contract income and private treatment fees, both need to be recorded and reported, but they can behave differently in areas such as VAT and how income is recognised. We can help you keep the two streams clearly separated in your records, reconcile what each practice or payer has actually paid, and make sure the figures in your accounts and your return reflect the full picture rather than a rough estimate.
Costs commonly claimed include indemnity cover, professional body subscriptions, GDC registration, continuing professional development, clinical equipment, laboratory charges, accountancy fees and travel between sites. Whether a particular cost is allowable depends on what it is for and how it is used, and capital items are usually treated differently from day-to-day running costs. We can review your spending, identify what can be claimed and flag anything that should be handled another way.
Not necessarily. VAT registration depends on your taxable turnover and on the nature of the services provided, since some dental treatment is exempt while other work, such as certain cosmetic treatments or the sale of goods, may be taxable. Practices with a mixed income stream often need to consider how this affects registration, invoicing and the amount of VAT recoverable. We can review your position and advise on registering, deregistering or handling VAT where it applies.
There is no single answer, because the right structure depends on your profits, how many people are involved, your plans for the practice and how you want to take money out of the business. A partnership offers simplicity and shared responsibility, while a limited company can suit practices taking a different approach to profit extraction and longer-term planning. We can talk through the practical and tax implications of each option, including what changing structure would involve.
Switching is usually more straightforward than people expect. Once you decide to move, we can contact your existing accountant to request the records and information needed, and we will confirm what we require from you. We will then review your position, bring anything outstanding up to date, and agree how the ongoing work will be handled and when the key deadlines fall. You do not need perfectly organised records before getting in touch.
It helps to have details of how you work, such as whether you are employed, self-employed or a practice owner, and who pays you. Bank statements, invoices, expense receipts, payroll information and any previous accounts or tax returns are also useful, along with details of equipment purchases or practice borrowings. If some of that is missing, it is not a barrier — we can help identify what is needed and work through it with you.
