I highly recommend Imran to anyone looking for a reliable and knowledgeable accountant. He helped me sort out a very complicated backlog of accounts and prepared my overdue tax returns with professionalism and attention to detail. Throughout the process, he was incredibly patient, took the time to answer all of my questions, and explained everything clearly. We worked with a few different accountants before finally settling with Accotax, and we’re really glad we did. Their team is great. Abdul is responsive and easy to reach whenever I have a question, which makes a big difference. They take the time to understand how our business works and what our needs are. They are very knowledgeable, and when they don’t have the answer straight away, they take the time to look into it and get back to us quickly. Anum, who looks after our account on a day-to-day basis, including reconciling invoices and preparing the annual accounts, is amazing. She is professional, efficient, and follows the processes we have put in place together. She's also very quickin getting back to us whenever needed. We’re very happy to work with her and hope to continue doing so for as long as possible. Overall, Accotax has made our accounting experience much smoother and easier. We see them as a long-term partner as our business continues to grow. I would 100% recommend them.Posted on Google![]()

I have really impressed to date with all dealings with Accotax highly enough. From day one, they've made what can often be a complicated and stressful part of running a business feel straightforward and hassle-free. A special mention has to go to Anum, who has been friendly, incredibly responsive, and genuinely cares about providing the best possible service. No question is ever too much trouble, and she consistently goes above and beyond to make sure everything is dealt with efficiently. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend you to anyone looking for an accountant they can genuinely trust.Posted on Google![]()

It depends on your circumstances. If your only income is a salaried NHS post and your tax affairs are straightforward, you may manage without one. However, many doctors have additional income — private fees, locum shifts, consultancy work, medico-legal reports or practice profits — and that is where an accountant adds real value. Multiple income sources create questions about how income is reported, which expenses are allowable, whether payments on account apply and how to avoid an unexpected bill, and those are exactly the areas where specialist support pays for itself in reduced stress and better organisation.
Yes. Doctors who combine employed NHS income with private or locum earnings usually need to report the self-employed element through Self Assessment while their salary continues to be taxed through PAYE. We gather the figures from your records, business accounts or invoices, include the relevant professional expenses, and make sure the return reflects all of your income sources correctly rather than treating each one in isolation.
It depends on your employment status and how the expense relates to your work. Costs that are commonly relevant include medical indemnity cover, professional body subscriptions, certain training and continuing professional development costs, specialist equipment and uniform, and travel or mileage between work locations. The rules differ between employed and self-employed doctors, and some costs that are reimbursed by an employer cannot also be claimed. We review your expenditure in detail and only include what is properly allowable and supported by evidence.
Locum doctors are usually treated as self-employed, which means you are responsible for recording income, keeping receipts and filing a Self Assessment return. It also means you can typically claim a wider range of expenses than an employee, and that you may need to consider payments on account towards the following year's tax. Because locum work often involves moving between sites, mileage and travel records matter, as do professional indemnity and subscription costs.
It can be, but it is not automatically the right answer. Whether a limited company suits you depends on the level and consistency of your private income, how you want to take money out of the business, your pension position and your attitude to additional administration and filing obligations. We look at your specific circumstances and explain the trade-offs rather than applying a general rule, since an arrangement that works well for one doctor may be unnecessarily complex for another.
Yes. Practice partnerships bring their own accounting requirements, including profit shares, partners' drawings and capital accounts, staff payroll and clear reporting so each partner understands their position. We prepare partnership accounts and the related returns, and we can also support partners individually with their personal tax position, which is often where the interaction between partnership profit and personal income needs careful handling.
Yes. Much of the accounting process works perfectly well remotely, with documents shared securely and conversations held by phone or video at times that fit around clinics and rotas. What matters is that your records reach us in a usable form and that we agree a clear timetable for the work. If you prefer to meet in person, we can discuss how that would work when you get in touch.
Switching is usually more straightforward than doctors expect. We ask for some basic information about your income sources and current arrangements, then contact your existing accountant to request the handover of records and any professional clearance required. Once we have your files, we review your position, confirm what needs to be filed and when, and take over the compliance work. If you are partway through a tax year or have an outstanding return, we will explain what needs to happen next before anything is submitted.
