We worked with a few different accountants before finally settling with Accotax, and we’re really glad we did. Their team is great. Abdul is responsive and easy to reach whenever I have a question, which makes a big difference. They take the time to understand how our business works and what our needs are. They are very knowledgeable, and when they don’t have the answer straight away, they take the time to look into it and get back to us quickly. Anum, who looks after our account on a day-to-day basis, including reconciling invoices and preparing the annual accounts, is amazing. She is professional, efficient, and follows the processes we have put in place together. She's also very quickin getting back to us whenever needed. We’re very happy to work with her and hope to continue doing so for as long as possible. Overall, Accotax has made our accounting experience much smoother and easier. We see them as a long-term partner as our business continues to grow. I would 100% recommend them.Posted on Google![]()

From day one, they've made what can often be a complicated and stressful part of running a business feel straightforward and hassle-free. A special mention has to go to Anum, who has been friendly, incredibly responsive, and genuinely cares about providing the best possible service. No question is ever too much trouble, and she consistently goes above and beyond to make sure everything is dealt with efficiently. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend you to anyone looking for an accountant they can genuinely trust.Posted on Google![]()

Not every doctor does, but many benefit from one. If all of your income is taxed through PAYE and your affairs are straightforward, your needs may be limited. Once you have private medical income, locum or consultancy earnings, a partnership profit share, a limited company, or a pension position you want to review, the reporting and tax questions multiply quickly. An accountant can help make sure income from every source is reported correctly, that relevant professional expenses are claimed where the rules allow, and that deadlines are met without last-minute scrambling.
Your NHS salary is usually taxed through PAYE, but private fees, locum work and consultancy income generally need to be reported through Self Assessment, and the two are then brought together to establish your overall tax position. That can result in additional tax being payable and may also trigger payments on account towards the following year. The exact outcome depends on your total income, your expenses and your individual circumstances, so it is worth reviewing before the return is due rather than after.
Common areas to consider include medical indemnity and professional indemnity cover, professional body and registration subscriptions, revalidation and training costs that maintain or update your existing professional skills, specialist equipment, professional development, and business travel or mileage where the journey qualifies. Whether a particular cost is allowable depends on the rules and on your employment or self-employment status, and expenses that are reimbursed by an employer are treated differently from those you pay personally. It is important to keep evidence for anything you claim.
It depends on how the work is arranged. Locum doctors engaged directly and working under their own control are often treated as self-employed, while work through an agency, an NHS trust or an intermediary can point towards employment instead, and off-payroll working rules may also be relevant in some arrangements. Because status affects how income is taxed, what can be claimed and what needs to be filed, it is worth reviewing your contracts and working practices rather than assuming a particular treatment.
There is no universal answer, because it depends on your level of profit, how many income streams you have, how you want to pay yourself, your pension position and your longer-term plans. Operating through a limited company brings different reporting obligations, including annual accounts and Corporation Tax, and may suit some doctors while adding unnecessary cost and administration for others. We look at your circumstances in the round and explain the practical implications of each structure rather than applying a blanket rule.
Yes. Partnership and practice finances often involve profit shares, capital accounts, staff payroll, practice expenses and reporting obligations that need to be handled consistently each year. We can prepare partnership accounts and supporting information, help partners understand their individual tax positions arising from the profit share, and advise on questions such as admitting or retiring partners and how profits are allocated. The specifics depend on your partnership agreement and how the practice is organised.
VAT treatment depends on the nature of the service and who is providing it. Supplies of medical care by appropriately qualified health professionals are generally exempt, but other activities — such as certain cosmetic or non-medical services, reports or medico-legal work — may fall outside that exemption. Registration thresholds and obligations can also change over time, so the position should be reviewed against what you actually do rather than assumed from a general rule.
We can work with you in the way that suits you best, using secure digital document sharing, email and calls so that records and questions can be handled without unnecessary travel. Changing accountants is usually more straightforward than doctors expect: we ask for your authorisation to contact your current accountant, request the relevant records and filing history, and confirm what is outstanding. We then take over the ongoing work from an agreed date, so continuity of filing is maintained throughout the switch.
