I highly recommend Imran to anyone looking for a reliable and knowledgeable accountant. He helped me sort out a very complicated backlog of accounts and prepared my overdue tax returns with professionalism and attention to detail. Throughout the process, he was incredibly patient, took the time to answer all of my questions, and explained everything clearly. He guided me through each step and helped rectify issues that had built up over time, making what felt like an overwhelming situation much more manageable. We worked with a few different accountants before finally settling with Accotax, and we’re really glad we did. Their team is great. Abdul is responsive and easy to reach whenever I have a question, which makes a big difference. They take the time to understand how our business works and what our needs are. They are very knowledgeable, and when they don’t have the answer straight away, they take the time to look into it and get back to us quickly. Anum, who looks after our account on a day-to-day basis, including reconciling invoices and preparing the annual accounts, is amazing. She is professional, efficient, and follows the processes we have put in place together. She's also very quickin getting back to us whenever needed. We’re very happy to work with her and hope to continue doing so for as long as possible. Overall, Accotax has made our accounting experience much smoother and easier. We see them as a long-term partner as our business continues to grow. I would 100% recommend them.Posted on Google![]()

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend you to anyone looking for an accountant they can genuinely trust.Posted on Google![]()

The work covers the same core areas as any accountancy service, but applied with an understanding of how healthcare income and costs behave. That typically includes preparing Self Assessment returns where you have locum, private or NHS income, preparing annual accounts and Corporation Tax returns for incorporated practices, bookkeeping, payroll for clinical and support staff, VAT advice, and tax planning. It also involves the practical detail: which professional fees and indemnity costs are allowable, how travel between sites is treated, and how to keep records that stand up to scrutiny.
Yes. A single physiotherapist, private consultant or locum GP may only need an annual tax return and some guidance on expenses, while a multi-partner dental practice or clinic may need monthly bookkeeping, payroll for several staff, management accounts and structure advice. The underlying issues around mixed income, allowable costs and compliance are similar; the scope and frequency of support simply change with the size and complexity of the business.
Both are generally taxable, but they can arrive in different forms. Salaried NHS employment is taxed through PAYE, while private practice fees and some locum arrangements are usually self-employed income reported on a Self Assessment return. Where you have both, the return needs to bring the sources together correctly, and expenses must be attributed sensibly to the right stream. Keeping separate records for each income type makes the process considerably easier.
Common claims include professional registration and regulatory fees, medical indemnity insurance, professional body subscriptions, specialist clothing such as scrubs where required for work, continuing professional development, clinical equipment and tools, and travel between separate work locations. Expenses must be incurred wholly and exclusively for the purposes of your work, so everyday commuting and personal costs generally do not qualify. Good record keeping is what makes these claims defensible.
Many healthcare services are exempt from VAT, which means they do not count towards the registration threshold in the usual way. However, standard-rated supplies such as retail products, cosmetic treatments, non-medical services or certain room lettings can change the position, and a mix of exempt and standard-rated income may bring partial exemption rules into play. It is worth reviewing your specific activities rather than assuming exemption applies across the board.
There is no single answer. Sole trader and partnership structures are simpler administratively, while a limited company can offer different tax treatment and limited liability, which is often relevant where premises, staff and professional risk are involved. The right choice depends on your profits, how you take money out, whether you are bringing in partners or associates, and your longer-term plans. A structure review is usually the sensible starting point.
Yes. Accounting and tax work lends itself well to remote arrangements, using secure digital sharing for records, documents and signed approvals, alongside calls or video meetings to discuss your position. That said, plenty of clients still prefer a mixture of remote convenience and in-person discussion at key points in the year, and that can be accommodated.
The first step is a conversation about your circumstances: your role, how your income is generated, whether you employ anyone, and what you currently find difficult. From there, your records, deadlines and business structure are reviewed so that a clear plan can be set out. If you already have an accountant, the transition can usually be handled in a straightforward way once you confirm you wish to proceed.
