I highly recommend Imran to anyone looking for a reliable and knowledgeable accountant. He helped me sort out a very complicated backlog of accounts and prepared my overdue tax returns with professionalism and attention to detail. Throughout the process, he was incredibly patient, took the time to answer all of my questions, and explained everything clearly. He guided me through each step and helped rectify issues that had built up over time, making what felt like an overwhelming situation much more manageable. We worked with a few different accountants before finally settling with Accotax, and we’re really glad we did. Their team is great. Abdul is responsive and easy to reach whenever I have a question, which makes a big difference. They take the time to understand how our business works and what our needs are. They are very knowledgeable, and when they don’t have the answer straight away, they take the time to look into it and get back to us quickly. Anum, who looks after our account on a day-to-day basis, including reconciling invoices and preparing the annual accounts, is amazing. She is professional, efficient, and follows the processes we have put in place together. She's also very quickin getting back to us whenever needed. We’re very happy to work with her and hope to continue doing so for as long as possible. Overall, Accotax has made our accounting experience much smoother and easier. We see them as a long-term partner as our business continues to grow. I would 100% recommend them.Posted on Google![]()

From day one, they've made what can often be a complicated and stressful part of running a business feel straightforward and hassle-free. No question is ever too much trouble, and she consistently goes above and beyond to make sure everything is dealt with efficiently. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend you to anyone looking for an accountant they can genuinely trust.Posted on Google![]()

The work covers the same core areas as any accountancy service, but applied to healthcare circumstances. That includes preparing Self Assessment tax returns for clinicians with employed, locum and private income, annual accounts and Corporation Tax returns for practices and clinics, bookkeeping and management accounts, payroll for clinical and administrative staff, VAT advice on mixed exempt and taxable services, and tax planning around business structure and profit extraction. In practice, much of the value lies in making sure mixed income streams are correctly reported, expenses are properly supported and deadlines are met without last-minute scrambling.
If you receive income that is not taxed through PAYE — for example locum fees, associate payments, private consultation income or earnings invoiced through your own company — you will usually need to report it. Even where tax has been deducted at source, HMRC may still expect a return. The safest approach is to review your total income sources, including any salaried post and pension income, and confirm your filing position rather than assume the tax already deducted settles the matter. We can review your circumstances and prepare the return if one is required.
NHS payments and private fees are both taxable, but they can behave differently in other respects. Private work is often invoiced directly, which raises questions about VAT registration thresholds and the nature of the supply, while NHS income frequently arrives through set payment mechanisms and may interact with pension contributions. Record keeping needs to keep the two streams clearly separated, because a single bank account with mixed deposits makes it difficult to demonstrate what relates to which activity. Getting the classification right from the outset avoids corrections later.
Yes. Payroll for a medical or dental practice typically includes a mix of clinical staff, reception and administrative teams, and sometimes locums or associates paid on a different basis. We can handle payslips, PAYE reporting to HMRC, statutory payments, pension auto-enrolment duties and the year-end processes that accompany them. Where individuals provide services through their own limited company, the tax status of that engagement may need separate consideration, so it is worth discussing the arrangement before it begins rather than after.
Common claims include professional registration and licence fees, professional indemnity insurance, mandatory training and CPD, specialist equipment and uniforms, business mileage and a reasonable proportion of home running costs where a workspace is genuinely used for practice administration. Items with mixed personal and professional use, such as vehicles, phones and computers, need a defensible basis for the business share claimed. The principle throughout is that the expense must be incurred wholly and exclusively for the purposes of the work, so records and receipts matter as much as the category itself.
It depends on what is supplied. Many healthcare services provided by registered professionals are exempt from VAT, but other activities — cosmetic treatments, some diagnostic work, non-medical reports, retail sales in a pharmacy or the sale of goods — may be standard-rated or zero-rated. A business with a mixture of exempt and taxable income needs to monitor its turnover carefully, because the VAT registration threshold applies differently to exempt supplies, and partial exemption rules can affect how much input VAT can be recovered. Advice before you cross a threshold is generally more useful than a review afterwards.
Yes. Most accounting work is now carried out through secure digital records, cloud bookkeeping software and online document sharing, so location is rarely a barrier. What matters is that records reach us accurately and on time, and that you have a clear point of contact for questions. Whether you prefer to send information digitally or discuss matters by phone or video, the process can be organised around your clinical schedule rather than a fixed appointment.
Start with a conversation about how you work. It helps to have a rough picture of your income sources, whether you employ anyone, whether you are VAT registered, and any upcoming deadlines or HMRC correspondence you are concerned about. From there we can review your current position, identify what needs attention and confirm what support would look like. If you already have an accountant, the handover is usually straightforward once we know what records and filings exist.
