I highly recommend Imran to anyone looking for a reliable and knowledgeable accountant. He helped me sort out a very complicated backlog of accounts and prepared my overdue tax returns with professionalism and attention to detail. Throughout the process, he was incredibly patient, took the time to answer all of my questions, and explained everything clearly. He guided me through each step and helped rectify issues that had built up over time, making what felt like an overwhelming situation much more manageable. I'm very pleased with the service I've received and truly appreciate his support. If you need help with your accounts or taxes, I would highly recommend Imran.Posted on Google![]()

We worked with a few different accountants before finally settling with Accotax, and we’re really glad we did. Their team is great. Abdul is responsive and easy to reach whenever I have a question, which makes a big difference. They take the time to understand how our business works and what our needs are. They are very knowledgeable, and when they don’t have the answer straight away, they take the time to look into it and get back to us quickly. Anum, who looks after our account on a day-to-day basis, including reconciling invoices and preparing the annual accounts, is amazing. She is professional, efficient, and follows the processes we have put in place together. She's also very quickin getting back to us whenever needed. We’re very happy to work with her and hope to continue doing so for as long as possible. Overall, Accotax has made our accounting experience much smoother and easier. We see them as a long-term partner as our business continues to grow. I would 100% recommend them.Posted on Google![]()

I have really impressed to date with all dealings with Accotax highly enough. From day one, they've made what can often be a complicated and stressful part of running a business feel straightforward and hassle-free. A special mention has to go to Anum, who has been friendly, incredibly responsive, and genuinely cares about providing the best possible service. No question is ever too much trouble, and she consistently goes above and beyond to make sure everything is dealt with efficiently. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend you to anyone looking for an accountant they can genuinely trust.Posted on Google![]()

The difference is in the detail rather than the label. Healthcare income often arrives through several routes at once — NHS contracts, private patient fees, associate profit shares, locum invoices and insurer settlements — and each needs to be recorded and treated correctly. Healthcare accountants also deal regularly with areas such as VAT exemption for medical services, indemnity insurance and professional registration costs as allowable expenses, payroll for mixed clinical and administrative teams, and the structure questions that arise when a practitioner moves from sole trader to partnership or limited company. A general accountant can learn all of this, but a specialist starts from a position of understanding your sector.
In most cases, yes. If you are engaged as a self-employed locum, you will normally need to register with HMRC and file a Self Assessment return each year, reporting your income and claiming the expenses you are entitled to. If you also hold a salaried post, that income is taxed through PAYE, but it still needs to be included on the return, and the interaction between the two can affect your overall liability and payments on account. If your only income is a salary taxed through PAYE and you have no untaxed income, you may not need to file — but it is worth checking rather than assuming.
Yes, and it is one of the areas where good record keeping pays off. Typical claims include professional body and registration fees, indemnity or malpractice cover, clinical equipment and its maintenance, specialist clothing and uniforms, stationery and practice software, training and continuing professional development that maintains your existing skills, and travel between separate work locations. Practice owners may also claim premises costs, insurance, and staff-related expenditure. The rules are specific about what qualifies and what does not, so we review claims against your actual circumstances rather than applying broad assumptions.
Many medical and healthcare services are exempt from VAT, but exemption is not automatic for everything a healthcare business does. Cosmetic or purely aesthetic treatments, retail sales such as pharmacy products, some consultancy and certain non-medical services are commonly standard-rated. Businesses with a mix of exempt and taxable income are also affected by partial exemption rules, which limit how much input VAT can be reclaimed. If your turnover is approaching the registration threshold, or you are already registered, we can advise on whether registration is required or beneficial, which scheme suits you, and how to handle mixed supplies correctly.
We do. Payroll for a healthcare practice often involves a mix of full-time, part-time and bank staff, variable hours, overtime and sometimes locum payments made through the practice. We can run the whole process, including real-time information submissions to HMRC, payslips, statutory sick pay and holiday calculations, and the pension auto-enrolment duties that come with employing staff. If you are taking on your first employee, we can also help you understand what employer obligations apply before the first payday.
It depends on your level of profit, how you take money out of the business, whether you have partners or co-directors, and your longer-term plans for the practice. Incorporation can offer certain tax and liability advantages, but it also brings additional compliance — statutory accounts, Corporation Tax returns, confirmation statements and different rules on dividends and director loans. There can also be tax consequences on the transfer of goodwill or assets. Rather than treating incorporation as universally good or bad, we look at your figures and explain what the change would mean for you in practice.
Yes. Accounting and tax work is well suited to remote arrangements, and much of what we do involves secure digital records and cloud bookkeeping software rather than paper files. Documents can be shared electronically, meetings can be held by phone or video, and returns can be reviewed and approved without you needing to attend in person. That said, we are happy to work in whatever way suits you best, and we will agree the practical arrangements at the outset so you know how records are passed over and how quickly you can expect a response to questions.
Very little to begin with. An initial conversation about your work, your income sources and any concerns you have is enough for us to understand what is needed. From there, useful items include your last set of accounts or tax return, details of any outstanding HMRC correspondence, your current bookkeeping records, payroll information if you employ staff, and your VAT registration details if applicable. If some of that is missing or out of date, that is not a problem — identifying what needs to be brought up to date is part of the process.
