I highly recommend Imran to anyone looking for a reliable and knowledgeable accountant. He helped me sort out a very complicated backlog of accounts and prepared my overdue tax returns with professionalism and attention to detail. Throughout the process, he was incredibly patient, took the time to answer all of my questions, and explained everything clearly. He guided me through each step and helped rectify issues that had built up over time, making what felt like an overwhelming situation much more manageable. I'm very pleased with the service I've received and truly appreciate his support. If you need help with your accounts or taxes, I would highly recommend Imran.Posted on Google![]()

We worked with a few different accountants before finally settling with Accotax, and we’re really glad we did. Their team is great. Abdul is responsive and easy to reach whenever I have a question, which makes a big difference. They take the time to understand how our business works and what our needs are. They are very knowledgeable, and when they don’t have the answer straight away, they take the time to look into it and get back to us quickly. Anum, who looks after our account on a day-to-day basis, including reconciling invoices and preparing the annual accounts, is amazing. She is professional, efficient, and follows the processes we have put in place together. She's also very quickin getting back to us whenever needed. We’re very happy to work with her and hope to continue doing so for as long as possible. Overall, Accotax has made our accounting experience much smoother and easier. We see them as a long-term partner as our business continues to grow. I would 100% recommend them.Posted on Google![]()

I have really impressed to date with all dealings with Accotax highly enough. From day one, they've made what can often be a complicated and stressful part of running a business feel straightforward and hassle-free. A special mention has to go to Anum, who has been friendly, incredibly responsive, and genuinely cares about providing the best possible service. No question is ever too much trouble, and she consistently goes above and beyond to make sure everything is dealt with efficiently. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend you to anyone looking for an accountant they can genuinely trust.Posted on Google![]()

The work splits into compliance and advice. Compliance covers Self Assessment tax returns, annual accounts for sole traders, partnerships and limited companies, Corporation Tax returns, VAT returns, payroll and pension reporting, and Companies House filings where relevant. Advice covers the questions those figures raise — whether a cost is allowable, how private income should be structured, whether operating through a company makes sense, how VAT affects a mixed NHS and private practice, and what a change of role means for your tax position. For healthcare clients the two are closely linked, because the reporting treatment usually depends on the working arrangement behind it.
It is not a legal requirement, but it is often worthwhile. Salaried clinicians can still face higher-rate tax, pension contribution questions, benefits reported through a P11D, tax code errors and income from private work, teaching, research or property. If your only income is a single salary taxed through PAYE, an accountant may add limited value. If your affairs have any complexity at all — additional income streams, a pension annual allowance question, or an interest in tax planning — a review usually pays for itself in accuracy and time saved.
Yes, and that is one of the main reasons healthcare professionals seek specialist support. NHS salary and pension figures come through your employer and HMRC systems, while private fees, locum payments and self-employed profits are reported separately. Getting the two to reconcile correctly on a single Self Assessment is where errors commonly creep in, particularly around payments on account, expenses split between employed and self-employed work, and the timing of income. We build the return around both streams so the figures make sense together.
It depends on the service. Most care provided by registered health professionals — medical, dental, nursing, physiotherapy and similar regulated services — is exempt from VAT. However, services outside that scope, such as purely cosmetic procedures, some medico-legal work or non-regulated complementary therapies, can be standard-rated. Where a practice provides a mixture of exempt and taxable services, it becomes partially exempt, which affects how much input VAT can be reclaimed. We help work through whether registration is required and how partial exemption applies to your specific mix.
Common claims include professional registration and regulatory fees, professional indemnity insurance, CPD and training that maintains existing skills, specialist equipment and clinical clothing, laundry where uniforms must be cleaned at specified standards, and travel between sites during the working day. Self-employed clinicians apply the wholly and exclusively for the purposes of the trade test, while employees face the stricter wholly, exclusively and necessarily test, so the same cost may be treated differently depending on how you are engaged. Claims need to be proportionate and supported by records, and we review expense treatment as part of preparing accounts and returns.
Yes. Payroll for a practice typically covers receptionists, practice managers, nurses, dental nurses and administrative staff, with variable hours, overtime, statutory sick pay, holiday pay and pensions auto-enrolment duties all needing to be handled correctly. We process payslips, real-time information submissions to HMRC, year-end P60s and P11Ds, and can review how associate or locum payments should be treated — whether as employment, self-employment or something requiring closer checking against the off-payroll working rules.
Yes. Most of the administration behind healthcare accounting is well suited to remote working. Cloud accounting software allows records and receipts to be captured as you go, documents can be shared securely, and meetings can be held by phone or video at times that fit around clinics and surgery hours. Some clients prefer a mixture — remote for routine record keeping and scheduled conversations for planning or year-end matters. Either approach works, and you are not expected to change how you already manage records before the first conversation.
Start with a conversation. It helps to have a rough picture of your income sources, your current business structure, whether you are registered for VAT or run payroll, and which deadlines are coming up. If you already have an accountant, we can arrange the handover of records directly and confirm anything outstanding. From there, we review your position, confirm what support is needed and set out the next steps — including whether anything urgent needs attention first, such as an upcoming filing date or an unregistered income source.
