I highly recommend Imran to anyone looking for a reliable and knowledgeable accountant. He helped me sort out a very complicated backlog of accounts and prepared my overdue tax returns with professionalism and attention to detail. Throughout the process, he was incredibly patient, took the time to answer all of my questions, and explained everything clearly. He guided me through each step and helped rectify issues that had built up over time, making what felt like an overwhelming situation much more manageable. I'm very pleased with the service I've received and truly appreciate his support. If you need help with your accounts or taxes, I would highly recommend Imran.Posted on Google![]()

We worked with a few different accountants before finally settling with Accotax, and we’re really glad we did. Their team is great. Abdul is responsive and easy to reach whenever I have a question, which makes a big difference. They take the time to understand how our business works and what our needs are. They are very knowledgeable, and when they don’t have the answer straight away, they take the time to look into it and get back to us quickly. Anum, who looks after our account on a day-to-day basis, including reconciling invoices and preparing the annual accounts, is amazing. She is professional, efficient, and follows the processes we have put in place together. She's also very quickin getting back to us whenever needed. We’re very happy to work with her and hope to continue doing so for as long as possible. Overall, Accotax has made our accounting experience much smoother and easier. We see them as a long-term partner as our business continues to grow. I would 100% recommend them.Posted on Google![]()

I have really impressed to date with all dealings with Accotax highly enough. From day one, they've made what can often be a complicated and stressful part of running a business feel straightforward and hassle-free. A special mention has to go to Anum, who has been friendly, incredibly responsive, and genuinely cares about providing the best possible service. No question is ever too much trouble, and she consistently goes above and beyond to make sure everything is dealt with efficiently. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend you to anyone looking for an accountant they can genuinely trust.Posted on Google![]()

The work centres on tax and accounting obligations that arise from clinical income. In practice that means preparing and filing Self Assessment returns that combine NHS, private and locum income, preparing annual accounts and computations for sole traders, partnerships and limited companies, handling Corporation Tax, keeping bookkeeping up to date, running payroll and pension duties for practice staff, and advising on VAT where some services are exempt and others are standard-rated. Many healthcare clients also want forward-looking advice on structure and tax planning rather than compliance alone.
Yes. Locums who operate through a personal service company typically need a mix of company accounts, Corporation Tax filings, payroll for a director's salary and dividend planning, and personal Self Assessment. The off-payroll working rules can also apply depending on who you contract with, so it is worth reviewing your arrangements and contracts rather than assuming a particular treatment applies. We can look at your specific situation and explain the implications before anything is filed.
That is one of the most common situations in healthcare. Salaried NHS income, private practice fees, locum payments and consultancy work all need to be reported correctly, and the totals affect your tax bands, your payments on account and any pension contributions relief you claim. We gather the figures from your payslips, invoices and practice statements, check that expenses have been claimed where entitled, and prepare a single return that reflects your full position.
Broadly, expenses must be wholly and exclusively incurred for your work. Common examples include professional registration and body subscriptions, indemnity or professional insurance, mandatory training and CPD, clinical equipment and uniforms, specialist journals, and travel between sites — although ordinary commuting is generally not allowable. Where something is used for both personal and professional purposes, such as a phone, a vehicle or a home office, only the business proportion can be claimed. Rules differ depending on whether you are employed, self-employed or working through a company, so it is worth checking your own circumstances rather than relying on general guidance.
It depends on what you supply. Many healthcare services are exempt from VAT, but not everything is — cosmetic or non-medical treatments, retail sales in a pharmacy, and certain administrative or consultancy services can be standard-rated. If your taxable turnover crosses the registration threshold you must register, and where you provide a mixture of exempt and taxable services you may also need to deal with partial exemption. This is worth reviewing before you approach the threshold rather than after, because the accounting records need to support whatever treatment you apply.
There is no single right answer — it depends on your income level, how many people you work with, how you want to take money out of the business, and what you want to happen if circumstances change. Sole trader status is straightforward but offers no separation between you and the business. Partnerships suit shared practices but need a clear profit-sharing agreement. A limited company can offer flexibility around salary and dividends and may suit higher or more variable income, but it brings additional filing, payroll and compliance obligations. We can compare the options against your actual numbers and explain the trade-offs.
Yes. Payroll for a healthcare business often involves a mix of permanent employees, part-time clinicians, sessional staff and directors, sometimes with variable hours and differing pension entitlements. We can handle payslips, real-time reporting to HMRC, statutory payments and pension auto-enrolment duties, and we can co-ordinate with whoever manages your rotas so that payments are accurate each period. Where a locum works through their own company, we can also advise on how those payments should be treated.
Yes. Most of the accounting and tax work we carry out is handled remotely, so you can share records, invoices and documents securely without needing to arrange appointments around clinics or surgery hours. We agree at the outset how information will be exchanged, who will keep the bookkeeping up to date and what your filing deadlines are. If you prefer to talk things through, we arrange calls or meetings at times that work around your clinical commitments.
The starting point is a conversation about how you work — employed, self-employed, in partnership, through a company, or a combination — along with your most recent tax returns, accounts, VAT records if relevant, and any correspondence from HMRC. If your records are behind or incomplete, that is not a barrier; it simply becomes part of the scope we agree. From there we set out the filing dates that apply to you and confirm who is responsible for what, so you know exactly where you stand.
