We worked with a few different accountants before finally settling with Accotax, and we’re really glad we did. Their team is great. Abdul is responsive and easy to reach whenever I have a question, which makes a big difference. They take the time to understand how our business works and what our needs are. They are very knowledgeable, and when they don’t have the answer straight away, they take the time to look into it and get back to us quickly. Anum, who looks after our account on a day-to-day basis, including reconciling invoices and preparing the annual accounts, is amazing. She is professional, efficient, and follows the processes we have put in place together. She's also very quickin getting back to us whenever needed. We’re very happy to work with her and hope to continue doing so for as long as possible. Overall, Accotax has made our accounting experience much smoother and easier. We see them as a long-term partner as our business continues to grow. I would 100% recommend them.Posted on Google![]()

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend you to anyone looking for an accountant they can genuinely trust.Posted on Google![]()

Reach out to us, and we’ll discuss your needs and how we can help your healthcare practice thrive.
We’ll send over a simple letter to formalise our partnership and get everything in motion.
If you're switching, we’ll take care of contacting your previous accountants to make the transition smooth.
From there, sit back and relax. We’ll manage your accounts, taxes, and everything in between, keeping your practice running smoothly.
Our service is built around your circumstances, so the exact mix depends on whether you are employed, self-employed, in a partnership or running a limited company. Typically it covers Self Assessment preparation and filing, annual accounts, bookkeeping and financial record keeping, Corporation Tax where relevant, payroll for pharmacy staff, tax planning and management accounts. VAT support is included where your turnover or activities mean registration applies. We will set out precisely what is covered before you commit, so there are no surprises later.
It suits anyone working in pharmacy, from community pharmacists and locum pharmacists through to self-employed prescribing pharmacists, pharmacy owners, independent pharmacies, pharmacy partnerships and limited company contractors. It is equally relevant if you are just starting out and want your first return done properly, or if you have an established business and want an accountant who understands NHS income, private prescription income, stock and staffing costs without needing it explained. If you are unsure whether your situation fits, a short conversation will usually make it clear.
Pharmacy income rarely arrives in one neat stream, so we start by mapping where it comes from — NHS payments, private prescriptions, over-the-counter sales, locum fees, vaccination or clinic services and any consultancy work. Each source is recorded so the figures reconcile and the tax position is accurate. Where income is received gross or through an agency, we check how it has been treated so nothing is double counted or missed. If there is a question over how a particular payment should be categorised, we will explain the position and how it applies to you.
Yes, Self Assessment is one of the areas we deal with most often for locum and self-employed pharmacists. We gather your income records from all engagements, review the expenses you have incurred and identify which ones may be allowable in your circumstances, then prepare and file the return ahead of the deadline. We also help you plan for the tax that will be due, so the bill does not arrive as a shock. Because allowance and relief positions vary from person to person, we will always confirm how the rules apply to your specific situation rather than giving a blanket answer.
Common areas we review include professional registration fees, indemnity or professional cover, continuing professional development, specialist equipment and uniforms, and travel between work locations where it is not ordinary commuting. Whether a particular cost is allowable depends on individual circumstances, the nature of the expense and how it relates to your work, so we look at each item rather than assuming. We also keep an eye on record keeping, because an expense is far easier to support at HMRC level when there is a receipt and a clear explanation behind it.
We do. Bookkeeping is often the area pharmacy owners find hardest to keep on top of, particularly with high volumes of supplier invoices, stock purchases and daily takings. We can maintain your records through the year so the year-end position is clear and your management information is up to date. Payroll covers dispensers, counter staff, managers and locum cover, including the reporting obligations that come with employing a team. If you already have software in place, we can usually work with it; if not, we will help you settle on something practical.
VAT registration depends on your turnover, the nature of your supplies and a range of other factors, so it is not something we can answer in a general way — we will look at your specific position. Where registration applies, or where it would be advantageous, we can handle the returns, help you understand what is recoverable and make sure your records support the figures. Where you are below the threshold or your activities are exempt, we will explain what that means for your pricing and record keeping.
There is no single right answer, because the best structure depends on your profits, how you take money out, whether you have business partners, your plans for growth and how much administration you want to take on. Sole trader status is usually simplest, partnerships suit pharmacists trading together, and a limited company can offer different tax and liability outcomes in the right circumstances. We will talk through the practical implications of each option and review the position as your circumstances change, since a structure that worked when you started may not suit you several years later.
Switching is usually far less disruptive than people expect. Once you decide to move, we contact your existing accountant for the information we need, or ask you to authorise the transfer if they require it directly. We then review your records, bring anything outstanding up to date and confirm the deadlines ahead of you. If a return is already in progress or a filing date is approaching, we will flag that early so nothing is missed. Most clients find the handover takes very little of their own time.
It starts with a conversation. Get in touch and tell us a little about your role or your pharmacy business, what you currently have in place and what you would like help with. We will discuss your accounting and tax requirements, explain how we would approach them and set out what our support would involve, including our fixed, transparent packages and the absence of hidden fees. You then decide whether to proceed at your own pace. If you would like to move forward, we will agree the next steps and take it from there.
