I highly recommend Imran to anyone looking for a reliable and knowledgeable accountant. He helped me sort out a very complicated backlog of accounts and prepared my overdue tax returns with professionalism and attention to detail. Throughout the process, he was incredibly patient, took the time to answer all of my questions, and explained everything clearly. He guided me through each step and helped rectify issues that had built up over time, making what felt like an overwhelming situation much more manageable. We worked with a few different accountants before finally settling with Accotax, and we’re really glad we did. Their team is great. Abdul is responsive and easy to reach whenever I have a question, which makes a big difference. They take the time to understand how our business works and what our needs are. They are very knowledgeable, and when they don’t have the answer straight away, they take the time to look into it and get back to us quickly. Anum, who looks after our account on a day-to-day basis, including reconciling invoices and preparing the annual accounts, is amazing. She is professional, efficient, and follows the processes we have put in place together. She's also very quickin getting back to us whenever needed. We’re very happy to work with her and hope to continue doing so for as long as possible. Overall, Accotax has made our accounting experience much smoother and easier. We see them as a long-term partner as our business continues to grow. I would 100% recommend them.Posted on Google![]()

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend you to anyone looking for an accountant they can genuinely trust.Posted on Google![]()

The work covers both compliance and advice. On the compliance side, that typically means preparing Self Assessment returns for practitioners with NHS and private income, annual accounts and computations for sole traders, partnerships and limited companies, Corporation Tax returns for incorporated practices, bookkeeping, payroll with auto-enrolment pension duties, and VAT returns where registration applies. On the advice side, it includes tax planning, business structure reviews, profit extraction, allowable expense queries, and management accounts that help practice owners understand cash flow and profitability. The mix depends on whether you work as an individual locum, run a partnership, or operate a clinic or pharmacy with staff.
It suits anyone earning income through clinical or care work. That includes GPs and hospital doctors with private or locum income, consultants, dentists and dental practices, pharmacists and pharmacy owners, nurses, physiotherapists and allied health professionals, carers and care providers, and the clinics, medical practices and healthcare companies that employ or contract them. If your income comes from more than one source, or if you run a practice with staff and overheads, specialist support is usually worth having.
Often yes. PAYE deals with your salary, but it does not account for private fees, locum income, self-employed earnings, rental income, dividend income above the allowance, or untaxed savings interest. If any of those apply, a return is generally required, and even where it is not strictly required, filing can be worthwhile if tax has been overpaid. The return also determines payments on account for the following year, which is where planning ahead matters — a large unexpected bill in January is usually a sign that the previous year's position was not reviewed early enough.
Expenses must be incurred wholly and exclusively for the purposes of your work or business. In practice this often includes professional body and regulatory subscriptions, indemnity or professional insurance, CPD and training that maintains existing skills, specialist equipment and clinical clothing, professional journals, business mileage, and a proportionate share of home costs where you use part of your home for administrative work. Some items — such as ordinary clothing, personal travel, or training that opens up a new career — are not allowable. Keeping clear records and reviewing categories each year helps ensure nothing legitimate is missed and nothing risky is included.
It depends on the nature and level of your income. Most medical and care services are exempt from VAT, so many practitioners never approach the registration threshold on clinical work alone. However, standard-rated income such as cosmetic treatments, pharmacy retail sales, and some non-clinical services counts towards the threshold, and once registered, exempt and standard-rated income must be separated correctly. Partial exemption rules can then apply to the VAT you can recover on costs. Getting this wrong is one of the more common and more costly errors in healthcare, which is why the treatment of each income stream should be reviewed rather than assumed.
Yes. Payroll for healthcare employers typically covers salaried staff, hourly-paid care workers, associates and, in some cases, directors of an incorporated practice. That includes calculating pay and deductions, issuing payslips, handling starters and leavers, processing statutory payments, reporting to HMRC under Real Time Information, and managing auto-enrolment pension duties including assessments and contributions. Keeping payroll separate from clinical work means it is handled to a consistent timetable, which reduces the risk of late submissions and rework.
Yes. Most of the information an accountant needs — records, invoices, bank statements, payroll details and correspondence — can be shared digitally, and software-based bookkeeping makes ongoing review much easier than exchanging paperwork. Many healthcare clients prefer this because clinic hours and on-call rotas make face-to-face appointments difficult to schedule. What matters is that the working arrangement is clear: who provides what, when returns are due, and how questions get answered during the year rather than only at the deadline.
It begins with a conversation about how you work and what you need. From there we look at your income sources, business structure, records, existing filings and upcoming deadlines, and set out what support would be appropriate and what needs attention first. If you are behind on returns, transferring from another accountant, or starting out in private practice for the first time, that is all workable — the priority is establishing an accurate starting position before moving forward.
