I highly recommend Imran to anyone looking for a reliable and knowledgeable accountant. He helped me sort out a very complicated backlog of accounts and prepared my overdue tax returns with professionalism and attention to detail. Throughout the process, he was incredibly patient, took the time to answer all of my questions, and explained everything clearly. He guided me through each step and helped rectify issues that had built up over time, making what felt like an overwhelming situation much more manageable. I'm very pleased with the service I've received and truly appreciate his support. If you need help with your accounts or taxes, I would highly recommend Imran.Posted on Google![]()

We worked with a few different accountants before finally settling with Accotax, and we’re really glad we did. Their team is great. Abdul is responsive and easy to reach whenever I have a question, which makes a big difference. They take the time to understand how our business works and what our needs are. They are very knowledgeable, and when they don’t have the answer straight away, they take the time to look into it and get back to us quickly. Anum, who looks after our account on a day-to-day basis, including reconciling invoices and preparing the annual accounts, is amazing. She is professional, efficient, and follows the processes we have put in place together. She's also very quickin getting back to us whenever needed. We’re very happy to work with her and hope to continue doing so for as long as possible. Overall, Accotax has made our accounting experience much smoother and easier. We see them as a long-term partner as our business continues to grow. I would 100% recommend them.Posted on Google![]()

I have really impressed to date with all dealings with Accotax highly enough. From day one, they've made what can often be a complicated and stressful part of running a business feel straightforward and hassle-free. A special mention has to go to Anum, who has been friendly, incredibly responsive, and genuinely cares about providing the best possible service. No question is ever too much trouble, and she consistently goes above and beyond to make sure everything is dealt with efficiently. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend you to anyone looking for an accountant they can genuinely trust.Posted on Google![]()

The day-to-day work overlaps — accounts, tax returns, payroll, VAT — but the difference is in how income and costs are interpreted. Healthcare professionals often receive income from several sources at once, such as NHS or Health Board work, private fees, locum sessions and associate profit shares, and each may be treated differently. There are also expense categories that are specific to clinical practice, including professional registration fees, indemnity insurance, specialist equipment and clinical training. An accountant familiar with these areas can help make sure income is reported correctly and that legitimate costs are claimed, while keeping your records organised in a way that reflects how you actually work.
If you receive income that has not been taxed at source — for example locum fees, private consultation income or self-employed sessional work — you will normally need to report it through Self Assessment. The same applies if you have untaxed income from property, savings or investments alongside your clinical earnings, or if HMRC has asked you to file. We prepare the return from your records, review the income sources and expenses with you, and submit it before the deadline so there are no last-minute surprises. If your circumstances change during the year, such as taking on additional private work or reducing NHS sessions, it is worth telling us early so the return reflects the full picture.
Yes. This is one of the most common situations we deal with. NHS or Health Board salary is usually taxed through PAYE, while private fees, locum work and associate profits are typically reported separately as self-employed or partnership income. Both need to sit correctly on the same Self Assessment return, and the interaction between them affects the tax you pay and any payments on account. We review payslips, P60s, private income records and practice profit allocations together so the return is consistent and complete.
It depends on your turnover and the type of services you provide. Many healthcare services are exempt from VAT, but that exemption does not apply to every activity, and mixed supplies — such as some cosmetic or non-medical services, product sales within a pharmacy, or certain business-to-business arrangements — can create a taxable element. If your taxable turnover crosses the registration threshold, or if you are close to it, you will need to consider registration. We can review your income profile, determine the correct VAT treatment and, where registration is required, handle the returns and Making Tax Digital compatible record keeping.
Allowable expenses are generally those incurred wholly and exclusively for your professional work. For clinicians and practice owners this often includes professional indemnity insurance, registration fees with relevant regulatory bodies, specialist equipment and instruments, laundry of uniforms, professional subscriptions, clinical training that maintains or updates your existing skills, and travel between sites where you work. Costs with a personal element, such as ordinary commuting to a permanent workplace or general clothing, are usually not allowable. We review categories individually rather than applying blanket rules, because the treatment can differ depending on whether you are self-employed, in a partnership or working through a limited company.
Yes. Payroll support covers salaried clinicians, associates, reception and administrative teams, and any other staff you employ. That includes calculating PAYE and National Insurance, processing starters and leavers, producing payslips and reporting to HMRC in real time. Where you employ staff and meet the qualifying conditions, pensions auto-enrolment duties also need to be managed, including assessing eligible workers and making the correct contributions. Taking payroll off your hands reduces the risk of late submissions and keeps staff queries flowing to us rather than to you.
There is no single right answer — it depends on your income level, how many people you work with, your appetite for administration and your longer-term plans. Sole trader status is straightforward and suits many individual practitioners, partnerships are common in general practice and dental practices where profits are shared, and a limited company can be appropriate for some incorporated practices, clinics and healthcare businesses. Each structure affects how tax is calculated, what you must file, how profits are extracted and what information is publicly available. We look at your circumstances in the round and explain the practical implications rather than assuming one option is always better.
Yes. Most of what we do is document-based, so records can be shared securely online, questions can be handled by phone or email, and meetings arranged when needed. To get started, we have an initial conversation about your role, income sources and current arrangements, then review your accounts, tax returns, bookkeeping and any outstanding deadlines. From there we agree the scope of support, how records will be passed to us and when key dates fall. If you are unsure what you need, that first conversation is usually enough to identify the priorities — and it does not commit you to anything.
